Colonization and ideology
A Jewish Canadian doctor and author has said that Gaza, prior to 7th of October 2024, was a huge concentration camp. Israeli journalists have tried to show Israelis the appalling conditions that existed in Gaza prior to October the 7th.
The colonization and division of Palestine has been a failure. ‘The Promised Land’ ideology has provoked hostility.
Tension prior to October 7th was high and catastrophe inevitable. When this happened, President Biden asked Israel to avoid revenge and thereby  to avoid the US mistakes in Iraq. Israel’s leaders and IDF ignored the President. A grossly unequal war has ensued. Eight months later more than 36,000 people in Gaza have been killed, more than 150,000 people have been injured. Gaza has been reduced to rubble, hospitals no longer exist. Doctors, paramedics and journalists have been killed indiscriminately. Starvation is rife. There is huge deficit of medication including anaesthetics and insulin.  Children in Gaza have not attended school for eight months. Mental trauma could be extremely high with epigenetic changes likely to lead to long term problems.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli defence minister and three Hamas leaders. Why then are world leaders still supplying arms to Israel? The US President needs to face down belligerent bullies in Congress. Arms to Israel must be stopped. If an immediate ceasefire is not forthcoming the EU must stop hesitating and proceed at this late stage to impose trade and financial sanctions on Israel.
History will not be kind to those who have shown tolerance of the gross infringement of the Geneva Convention. Future generations will ask. ‘Why did the world leaders let the carnage in Gaza continue in spite of the evidence that international humanitarian law was breached’?
