There has been a grossly  inadequate response to Venezuela’s crisis

El Salvador  was the first country to respond to Venezuela’s plea for help. The team of rescuers and paramedics had to break through layers of concrete in order to rescue a 15- year old girl.  El Salvador has had a lot of bad press from the US but ironically their team  did a lot more than the US in the vital hours of life viability.

Since the US invasion in January, Venezuelan’s sovereignty has been severely compromised.  The acting president has apparently  been following orders from President Trump.  Running the country seems less of a US priority than targeting oil.  Venezuela has huge oil reserves which US oil barons have allegedly  helped to extract and make available.  However  at this critical time in Venezuela  there is a reported shortage of energy resulting in an inability to use large power tools!    What has happened to the oil supply? How can  rescue proceed without large power tools?

The people of Venezuela are utterly  shocked and dismayed by the lack of humanitarian aid from within and without the country. Help from countries other than El Salvador has been  late, leaving people digging mounds of rubble with their bare hands.  International rescue organisations are hampered by lack of fuel available to use heavy equipment.

The  lack of early focus on the appalling scenario unfolding in Venezuela might be explained by the events in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, Ukraine, Russia and in Europe.

World political leadership is very poor.   The Pope  is accused of being too liberal when he rightly  advocates justice and peace,  with respect for the dignity of every individual.  The US is manipulating the media.  World-changing decisions seem to be taken  without  due process.  Israel has no respect for international law,  committing genocide in Gaza  and Lebanon.  In both Gaza and Lebanon the  elimination of  civilians particularly women and children occurs on a daily basis in spite of a peace treaty being in  force.

The US and Israel have made a gross mistake over Iran. Israel has made a revengeful and  pitiless destruction of  Gaza and is trying to do the same in Lebanon.

Israel has killed almost 4000 people in Lebanon and  displaced almost a million.  The US, UK, Germany  and Serbia continue to supply arms to Israel.  Italy has refused to sanction Israel because its trade objectives are similar to those of Israel!

The EU in the face of the ongoing genocide in Gaza has failed to impose sanctions on Israel while advocating  increasing sanctions on Russia.  Why are the two situations treated differently?

The  EU hypocrisy on human rights, sovereignty and  genocide has been laid bare.  The EU leadership has been biased probably because  of Germany’s guilt about the Holocaust and the unlikely but possible invasion by Russia of Baltic states.  This is not impartiality.  It is bad EU governance.  It risks EU breakup.

The EU is gripped with  enthusiasm for military strength. Is this warranted?

NATO should be able to cope but judging by its performance so far, the EU does not seem reassured.  NATO is weak.  It should have acted with iron diplomacy before Russia went into Ukraine.  It is too subservient to the US.  It needs to change.

The UN has been very  weak.   It needs restructuring with much more accountability.

In a New World Order all countries must be made accountable for their actions.  At present chaos ensues.  The Middle East is a cauldron of trouble. The US is out of order.  Israel has behaved like a primitive rogue state answerable to no one.  Iran and its proxies must be given a seat at the negotiation table.  The destabilization  of the world can only be resolved by a reformed US, an  EU  with values  deployed  non-selectively and an International Criminal Court with teeth.
